Hello Blog
All pieces of software, from smaller to larger must begin with a simple “Hello World”. And this blog post is no different.
In this post, I going to tell you WHY this blog was created and goal with it.
First things first.
At some moment of your career as programmer, you ask yourself some questions:
- What do I really want to do as a programmer?
- What skills do I want to improve?
- How to go to the next level?
These questions led me to other thoughs and a special question:
What would I do every day in my life if I didn’t need to work anymore?
That question helps me (and you) to find your truly “perfect day”.
And the answers is: I want to understand the entire process for making a game from scratch and do it before I die.
I love programming; writing code became my work and changed my life. And afterward, became my hobby as well.
The first step I’ll take is to follow every episode of Handmade Hero, the project created by extraordinary programmer, Casey Muratori that inspired many people around the world, including myself, who lives in Brazil.
I met the project in 2015, one year after it started and I procrastinated before starting the project for 10 years. YES, 10 years!
I was only present when I got sick for a whole year, and I thought: ‘If I die now, I won’t know how a game is made’. And this fact, changed everything.
But instead of following the episodes and coding alone, I want to try to ‘document’ my thoughts and my understanding of how to make a game from scratch. Maybe not only to make a game, but the entire philosophy behind how to become a great programmer.
I would log all thoughts in Notion or another note app. However, with a blog I can share them publicly.
Another reason for doing this blog is to practice English. So, as I said on the home page, I’m learning and probably I’m making some grammar mistakes. Sorry about that.
Now, as I write this post, I am 34 years old. I don’t know how much time it will take to complete this quest.
Maybe 5, 10, or even 20 years, considering my current business and Handmade Hero, which has over 630 episodes with approximately 1.5 hours of content each. I don’t know. But I will focus on researching and studying to make this happen.
Tiago Aguiar.
